Want to know what a Content Management System (CMS) is? Wondering what Joomla is and what it does? Read this quick summary.

What's a content management system (CMS)?

A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your website, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. A CMS manages all your website's content, which means you don't have to.

What is Joomla?

Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build websites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, has made Joomla the most popular website software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

Website Administration

Joomla allows several differnt ways to manage content pages, by utilizing User Levels from Publishers, Managers and Administrators you can assign different roles to individuals to allow them to perform tasks such as adding content, uploading image galleries and installing additional component functionality.

Joomla provides a user friendly interface from the front end or a robust backend administrator interface that has options from creating pages, page links, categories/section blog pages and component/plugin management.

All of our websites can be set up with a front end login as either a side module or a direct page link to a login form. Backend administrator access that includes greater control is also available for those who feel they can administer their own website. And whenever you need assistance, our knowledgable technical support team is always available to provide solutions.

What is a Component and/or Plugin you keep refering about?

A Component is an additional installation that extends Joomla's core functionality, from Calendars to Image Galleries these extensions can increase the overall functionality of your website.

A Plugin is also an additional installation, but these are limited to extending the core functionality of the componenets that make up Joomla. Examples of plugins include creating a Video page or having a side module position with weblinks, mini event lists, calendars and menu systems.
